Discipleship School in Romania - AOTV report

Adaugat la :  11.07.2019

In Romania there is a village where 400 people are living their lives. Its called Valcelele Bune. A German woman, Angelika Wenger, arrived here in 1995 as a response to Gods calling to come to Romania and engage in the ministry of training disciples. She founded Life in Jesus Christ Mission.

This was my vision and my calling. Later, my husband Mathias Wenger and I decided to make disciples and in 2003 we started the first Discipleship School here, in Valcelele Bune village.

The Discipleship School, open since 2003, welcomes young people almost every summer, offering them a 7-week program of theoretical and practical training.

Our emphasis is on character, we pray God would form every Christians character so that they would be more like Christ. Those coming here are enthusiastic young people, happy to learn more, to accept challenges. What is really interesting is all youths leave the school transformed.

The courses of the Discipleship School focus on forming character and equipping the young for ministry.

The themes we tackle are: how can I have a life of prayer, how can my character be formed, we have studies on the Fathers love, how can I learn to hear Gods voice, what is my calling, what is witnessing, how can I study the Bible.

The project conducted by the Christian mission based in Valcelele Bune village also includes 1 week of mission trips.

We went in the region known as Oltenia. We have some missionary friends over there and theyre always glad to work with our students. When were visiting villages, we organize programs for kids, we offer practical help, bring food, packages, talk to people there, evangelize.

The week of practice spent in the region of Oltenia was a challenge for me. I learned to pray for people, to evangelize, to discuss with them and to somehow understand their suffering. The interesting part was that a surgeon called the female doctor who later operated on me, even if she was not on call, and I knew this was an answer to my prayer. I knew God had sent her there. Before surgery, I asked her if she would let me pray, and she agreed. I prayed that the Holy Ghost would open her eyes so that she wouldnt miss any of what could be there.

In 2018, the school trained 12 students coming from different churches in Romania.

I spent more time with God at this school than Ive ever spent at home. The environment here helps you a lot. Theres nothing to tempt you. The signal isnt too good either, so the internet is no longer an obstacle. The Discipleship School is more than a school. It is a place where God actually works within you through His Holy Spirit, and you are simply dressed with principles that dont only help you when youre at school, but also equip you for the struggle youll be facing after you finish training.

I came here sad, fearful, with much uncertainty, but God has worked very hard in me. The first day I came here, God told me that He doesnt want me to be sad, that He has joy for me, and in Him theres no fear. The Lord also told me He has something special for me.

One of the courses that had a strong impact on the lives of the students was on the culture of honor.

Another Discipleship School course that had a huge impact on me was the one with brother Pica Mengher. He spoke about the culture of honor and I realized how important it is to be under authority, to respect your leaders and those whom God instructed to teach and advise you.

We live in a society where theres no sense of honor. Our country doesnt have the culture of honor in its DNA. We should honor our elders, their gray hair, as the Scripture tells us. We need to honor our family, parents, spiritual parents, to honor each other, even when they have gifts different from ours. All these things are taught in school and the young people say: This is something I didnt know about and I havent experienced before.

Honoring brings blessing over us. When we honor people, were blessed and the honor returns to us. If we dont honor, the dishonor turns against us.

Students who attended the Discipleship School organized by the Life in Jesus Christ Christian Missionary Association were encouraged to discover their gifts, to pray, to serve, to engage in mission and evangelism.
